YOINK OF THE WEEK: Alice Clark

Every review of this calls it "the best soul album you've never heard" — true enough, until you hear it, and then it's just the best soul album you'll never ever find, ever. Until today. Yoink!

YOINK OF THE WEEK: The Sounds of Yusef

Picked up an orig Prestige of this thing yesterday—gets truly weird after the 1st more traddy track. Don't be put off by the generically 'ecstatic' reish cover design, some excellent mid-sixties vibrations scamper around inside. Thnx Jazz a Gogo.

YOINK OF THE WEEK: Eddie Kendricks

My affection for Motown derivatives ever increasing (thanks Eccentric Soul)—picked this one up over the weekend, wouldn't have even been aware of it but lucky for me the guy running the store had it on. A perfect blend of former Temptation Kendricks' sweet falsetto and some funky, beautiful arrangements. Thanks Dance Disco Music 70s & 80s.

YOINK OF THE WEEK: Tony Scott

Exceedingly groovy and sadly under reported multinational free funk, documenting the post-bop clarinetist Scott's visits to South Africa over the decades. Not reished far as I know. Thanks to WFMU's Doug Schulkind for the tip and Pharaoh's Dance for the up (link in PD comments).

YOINK OF THE WEEK: Joyce

Visions of Dawn may not pack the punch of Joyce Nelson Angelo, but there are still some sunshiney Brazilian pop surprises here, very worth a listen. Thnx Art2Listen2Music2See.

YOINK OF THE WEEK: The Funkees

It's a crime that neither Point of No Return nor any of the other Funkees totally engaging and fun records have seen a rerelease. The above Nigerian bad boy will run you $300-400 on eBay, but don't expect to see any for sale (I sure haven't!).

Also yoinkable is Now I'm a Man. Collect 'em all! (At least the digital, low rez versions). Much thanks to My Favorite Sound, Delta T Goes Back, WFMU's Doug Schulkind and lcastico at Pen and Mallet.
